Sam brought us to the Kandyan Cultural Centre in the Red Cross Hall of Kandy. Here they have regular cultural performances. We did not expect much, but it was a lot of fun, complete with fire-breathing and walking.

Temple of the Sacred Tooth
We went to the Tooth Temple in Kandy on a special day. Not sure what day it was but it was great seeing all the people and be part of it. All very orderly, not pushy or too smelly, was a wonderful experience. When we flew home we saw the Buddhist Shop at the airport duty-free in Colombo and bought a few flags to take home.
The golden-roofed Temple of the Sacred Tooth houses Sri Lanka’s most important Buddhist relic – a tooth of the Buddha. During puja(offerings or prayers), the heavily guarded room housing the tooth is open to devotees and tourists. However, you don’t actually see the tooth. It’s kept in a gold casket shaped like a dagoba (stupa), which contains a series of six dagoba caskets of diminishing size.
Bahirawakanda Vihara
Bahirawakanda Vihara Buddha Statue
Bahirawa Kanda is Sinhalese for Gnome Mountain. Centuries ago, this hill was believed to be in possession of a wicked gnome with an insatiable thirst for human flesh. According to legend, the Kings of Kandy would reluctantly provide a human sacrifice to the cruel creature once a year. The chosen was always a beautiful young virgin of noble blood, who would be taken to the top of the mountain, tied to a tree and left for the gnome to ravage at his whim.
Tea Plantations
As Sam drives you from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya you will see several tea plantations along the way. Don't hesitate to ask Sam to stop whenever and wherever! Sam is there to make your trip wonderful and allow for photo opportunities at any time. Also, don't forget to stop at a simple rural roadside tea-stop where tourists don't normally stop!
Kandy Tooth Temple
Seen enough temples? I don't think so! Let Sam take you through this amazing site and you will not regret it. One of the Sri Lanka tour highlights. Pictures just don't do it justice :)
Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and is a World Heritage Site mainly due to the temple.
