If you want a local experience, go do the train! There are also fancy tourist trains you can book well in advance, but this is what we were after :)

Train from Nuwara Eliya to Ella
Today we thought we'd catch a train from Nuwara Eliya to Ella. A 3-4hr ride. Sam took our luggage in the car so we only had to carry a small bag with water etc. It is a very scenic section through massive mountains and tea plantations. Unfortunately all we saw was bodies :) Fun experience none the less. Lucky Ree got a bit of a seat after an hour, and I stood up mostly.
Demodara's Nine Arches Bridge
After getting off the train at Ella Samee took us to the Demodara 9 Arches Bridge; https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nine_Arches_Bridge,_Demodara.
Sam timed it so we could see a train go over and we slid down the muddy path to a good vantage point. As the train was delayed by an hour we gave it a miss and decided to find a beer in town.... Tonight's accommodation is at the lovely McQueens a short walk out of town.

Ravana Falls
I love the way Sri Lanka is environmentally conscious; Using Polythene (plastic etc) is prohibited in this zone!
The falls have been named after the legendary King Ravana, which is connected to the famous Indian epic, the Ramayana. According to legend, it is said that Ravana (who was the king of Sri Lanka at the time) had kidnapped princess Sita, and had hidden her in the caves behind this waterfall, now simply known as the Ravana Ella Cave. The reason for the kidnapping is said to be a revenge for slicing off the nose of his sister by Rama (husband of Sita) and his brother Laxmana.
